ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS WRITES AT THE CROSS’ SUMMIT IN THE ANNUAL SPORTS DAY!

St. John of the Cross it is! The house named after the great Saint who loved writings emerged top of the summit in a well-deserved win that saw houses going head-on in their bid to carry the bragging rights.

The annual ST. Jude Catholic Primary School sports day was a success with its celebrations being marked in the new norm during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Regional Superior East African Region, Sr Maria Deepthi A.C, graced the event. She was flanked by Sisters from the  Carmelite Congregation,  in an event that was officially declared open by her taking a penalty shoot. 

 

The band, the Scouts and St. John’s Ambulance under the leadership of Tr. Emmanuel and Tr. Anne Ngugi led the school in a splendorous opening ceremony as Houses- St. John of the Cross, Mother Veronica, St. Teresa of Avilla and St. Therese of Child Jesus- marched past the guests, parading their House colours and flags. The chief quest, Sr. Maria Deepthi A.C, in her speech, implored the young ones to use their talents in a way that is constructing to solve the world problems.

The day’s flurry of activities saw each team eager to win in every event of the day. The activities were made up of creative sports, field and track events in addition to other athletics. 

The event that ended at around 5 pm, saw St. John of the Cross winning the overall trophy. Mother Veronica was named the most disciplined house with St. Teresa of Avilla emerging as the best cheering house. St. Therese of Child Jesus was the first runners up missing the top position by a whisker.

During the awarding ceremony, The headteacher thanked all the teachers led by the organizer of the event, Tr. Kasili, for mounting great performances. True to her words, she awarded all the Houses for great participation and showing the spirit of sportsmanship. She urged the pupils to keep and extend the positive competition seen in the field in classes and in their daily life.

This was the 11th  sports event since the inception of St. Jude Catholic Pre-primary and Primary school and the first one under Sr. Wilma’s watch. The event is celebrated every two years in an alternating form with the Cultural event. The next event will be held in 2023. Until then, stay fit and remain focused!
